Kehl Springs Forest Camp

Every year my family camps in the Mogollon Rim District of the Coconino national forest. For the past several years it has been at the Kehl Springs campground.  it is a no fee campground with 8 sites and 2 awful stinky vault-type toilets (they sit above  big pits where everything collects, no flushing, but better than no toilets).

the first day of camp everyone was all excited to just get there and get camp set up (and of course the bear).  The girls had so much fun playing in the tent at first.  It was a pretty tight fit but we fit all 6 of us in there with 2 queen size air mattresses and the playpen.  DSCF2634

we also  had fun doing jeep rides with Great Grandpa throughout the weekend. This was the first one of the trip for my kids- and it was crowded!  Thankfully we had some more breathing room on the rest of the rides. DSCF2638

Day two started with making such pretty hair and a photo shoot in the meadow.

And Sam just loved exploring everywhere in his warm foot pajamas.

Then after breakfast we spent the rest of the morning fishing at knoll lake.

Everyone was interested at first, but bekah soon discovered that climbing on all the rocks was more fun for her.

Till she got tired and grumpy……

Till she found out that grandpa had orange soda and fruit snacks to share with her- then she wouldn’t leave his side!

Chase tried to show the kids how to fish with real hooks…. but that just stressed the kids out a lot and they got very frustrated. Finally Chase put back on the practice fish thing, and kids had a blast.  Brad kept talking about how he caught sooooo many yellow fish!    And of course- any excuse to play in the water is a good thing for my kids.
